Bryophyte-Fungus Symbiosis

Watercolor and Digital (Procreate, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop)

A set of illustrations showing the diversity of possible fungal symbioses in bryophytes. Just like mycorrhizae in flowering plants, bryophytes, a group of early land plant, can form symbioses with fungi. I was tasked here to illustrate the diversity in morphology of the symbiotic fungus across different bryophyte groups. I wanted to have the different illustrations working as independent pieces, providing an in-depth explanation for the symbiosis in one species, but also for them work as a set to compare the different possible morphologies.
